Magda was born in Indonesia, and her love of drawing showed itself early, right back in grammar school.

Magda was a naturally talented student, earning high marks for her drawing and being encouraged to pursue formal art education. But after the war, times were hard. Money was scarce, and that path was not one she was able to follow.

That did not stop her creativity. Even without formal training, Magda has always drawn simply when the feeling strikes her, whatever catches her eye in the moment. A little flower. A chicken. Small, honest sketches born purely from the joy of doing it.

Come meet Magda and see her work at the Barossa Village Main Exhibition, 3–31 August, 14 Scholz Ave, Nuriootpa. Open Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm.

For Elsje, art has been part of her life for around five years, but it is the company that keeps her coming back.

Elsje happily admits she muddles her way through, trying new things and learning as she goes. What matters most to her is not perfection, but the friendships she has made along the way, and she genuinely looks forward to each session.

Beyond the social side, art has given Elsje more focus in her day to day life. She believes creating and keeping the mind active is good for overall health, and there is something simple and joyful about it too. Elsje says she loves to create, and it never fails to put a smile on her face.

Come meet Elsje and see her work at the Barossa Village Main Exhibition, 3–31 August, 14 Scholz Ave, Nuriootpa. Open Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm.

Karen and Sue run All Hounds on Deck Doggy Daycare, and this year they're bringing something a little different to the Barossa Village art scene, dog paw print art.

Using peanut butter or Greek yoghurt as their "paint" of choice, the dogs leave their own unique mark on canvas and paper, creating fridge magnets and keepsakes the whole family can enjoy. It has become a favourite with the parents who bring their pups in for daycare, especially around occasions like Mother's Day.

For Karen and Sue, being part of the Barossa Village community and getting to showcase what they do with the dogs is something they genuinely value. It is a fun, playful reminder that creativity comes in all forms, and that community is at the heart of it all.

Come see this year's SALA exhibition, paw prints included, at the Barossa Village Main Exhibition, 3–31 August, 14 Scholz Ave, Nuriootpa. Open Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm.

Barbara has been painting for around 40 years, and in just the last 12 months has picked up a brand new craft, making miniature houses.

She describes the process as one that comes together naturally once you start, deciding where the windows go and whether they should be open or shut. But painting remains her first love, and everyone has their own favourite subject. For Barbara, that is chooks. She simply loves painting them.

Barbara is quietly proud of the work she puts in, and while she says the effort itself is beside the point, there is something special about having someone see what she has created and comment on it.

Come meet Barbara and see her work at the Barossa Village Main Exhibition, 3–31 August, 14 Scholz Ave, Nuriootpa. Open Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:30pm.
