Beck and Martin are accidental bakers. They met while Martin was backpacking around Australia, having departed his homeland of Germany for adventure abroad. Martin worked as a photographer. Beck grew up on farming country just outside the Barossa. She’s always been drawn to music, food, wine and proper hospitality.
Mehl was born simply – Martin missed German bread. With no baking experience, they set to work learning, experimenting, trying and re-trying many recipes. They ate a lot of bread. Beck and Martin have been sharing their bread with the Barossa community since January 2014. They describe it is as ‘our take on real bread, with some German influence.’
The social highlight of each week is their little corner stall at the Barossa Farmers Market every Saturday. This is where Beck and Martin connect to the Barossa community, regulars and visitors alike. The opportunity to share something which they have carefully made themselves is a ritual they consider very special.
